Cebuana Lhuillier is promoting ProtectMax, its over-the-counter microinsurance, around five everyday situations it calls “deliks” (dangerous) moments. According to the company, the policy costs ₱50 for four months of cover and is open to anyone aged 7 to 70 with no medical examination. One person can hold up to five active policies. It is sold at 3,500 Cebuana Lhuillier branches nationwide.

The company cites the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ 2025 Consumer Finance and Inclusion Survey, which it says found that only 30% of Filipino adults said their finances or savings would last. The company says 48% said it would be very difficult to come up with emergency funds.

“Being ready means looking beyond what we can anticipate and preparing for what we cannot,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier. “Financial protection is an important part of that preparedness, and our goal at Cebuana Lhuillier is to make insurance simpler, more affordable, and more accessible so Filipinos can put that protection in place before they need it.”

The five situations ProtectMax is said to cover

A road accident on the daily commute

If a covered accident results in the policyholder’s death, the company says ProtectMax pays financial support to their loved ones.

The sudden death of a family member

Not every death is accidental. When a policyholder dies from a covered cause, including illness, the release says the policy pays the beneficiary.

A fire at home

If a fire causes a loss that qualifies under the policy, ProtectMax pays the insured policyholder, according to the company. The release describes the payment as help with the first steps of rebuilding, not as replacement of what was lost.

Murder or unprovoked assault

The release uses the example of someone assaulted on the way home from a late shift. Where an incident of murder or unprovoked assault falls within the policy’s coverage, the company says ProtectMax can provide support that may lessen the financial burden on the policyholder or their loved ones.

An accident or illness that needs urgent care

For a health emergency that needs urgent medical attention, at home or elsewhere, the company says the policy provides financial support within its terms.

“Our goal is to bring protection closer to Filipino families,” said Atty. Isagani Acosta, General Manager of Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Brokers (CLIB). “With ProtectMax, we remove barriers of cost and access, making insurance a practical choice for everyday preparedness.”

What the release doesn’t say

The release gives no peso amount for any of the five benefits. It doesn’t name the insurer that underwrites the policy, list exclusions or waiting periods, or explain how to file a claim.
