11 Reasons to Travel to Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is the national capital and largest city of Malaysia. Best known for its iconic skyscrapers, primarily the Petronas Twin Towers.

If you follow me on Instagram (@ReyBelen), you would know that Kuala Lumpur is one of the most visited places I went to for the past three to four years.

And to give you a gist of why I go to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, here are 11 of the best reasons I can think of why I like the place.

Travel Hub in the Region

Kuala Lumpur connects long-term or transient visitors to many destinations. I personally do this, connecting my other flights via Kuala Lumpur, which I find more affordable, plus covering more areas to travel to.

The KLIA 2 is a central hub for many travelers going to Asia and Australia. Primarily due to AirAsia, offering affordable flights connecting many parts of the Asia Pacific Region (Asia and Australia) thus accessible to more passengers from all-over the world.

Affordable Rates

Kuala Lumpur is a place with affordable rates for food, transportation and accommodation. The tons of choices for many things, it gives you the flexibility choose based from what you can afford. This makes traveling easier without ripping off your pocket.

Good Food

Kuala Lumpur is a melting pot of three major ethnicity: Malay, Indian and Chinese. One good benefit of having these mix is a range of choices for local foods to try.

Different areas in Kuala Lumpur offer assorted specialties that any food adventurer can check-out.

For a richer experience, try different selections of the local food inspired by the three major ethnic groups.

Interesting Tourist Spots

Kuala Lumpur is reach of many types of interests. Whether you are in for cultural, architectural, spiritual, historical, environmental or adventure traveling, there is are spots for you in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Take the Petronas Twin Towers which is a very interesting centerpiece for the city. Not just because of its height, Petronas Twin Towers have a majestic look to it that differ based on what time of day you look at it.

The KL City Gallery that showcases the history of Kuala Lumpur in one place. Plus, interesting craftsmanship of individuals making scale figures of some of the best landmarks in the world for souvenirs – all made of intricate skills combining small woods.

Batu Caves, one of the most traveled area near Kuala Lumpur, is one of the interesting places that both believers and non-Hindu believers can check out. It is more of a cultural interest that anyone can look into.

Accessible Transportation

It is easy to travel in Kuala Lumpur, even for first-time tourists in the area. From the airport, you have the option to take the train, bus or taxi.

You can always take the train as many of the tourist spots are close to train stations. This might be the fastest way for you to cover many areas in a day. There are different lines going to places. KL Sentral is the center station for the trains connecting to different areas.

You can also take the city bus as another option to have a different perspective of the city. Kuala Lumpur buses have designated loading and unloading spots so be sure to know which stop you should go to.

As added tip, you can take the GoKL buses, as these are government buses that offer FREE ride. But take note, you have to know the specific stops you want to go to before riding or alighting.

Though, you can always make a mistake on your city tour with GoKL, since it is just free. ????

Many Can Speak English

If you’re just traveling in Kuala Lumpur, many locals can speak English.

With KL being a tourist and business destination, most of the people in the area know how to speak English. So, language barrier is a thing not to consider highly.

Diversed Culture

As previously mentioned, Kuala Lumpur is a city dominated by three major nationalities: Malay, Chinese and Indian. This diversity brings about the best of the three ethnicity offering the best of the three in terms of food, culture, fashion and many other things.

Safe from Natural Disasters

Malaysia as a whole is free from natural disasters such as earthquake, typhoons and tsunamis. Having this in mind, you can be sure that you have only two things to prepare for when in Kuala Lumpur, sunny and rainy weather.

“Long Day-Time” for Outdoor Trips

If you’re like me who is used to having sunsets at around 6pm, you will find that Kuala Lumpur’s 7:30pm sunset a good thing it virtually offers a better vantage for more traveling time outdoors.

Shopping

Whether you’re looking for clothes, shoes, make-up or gadgets, Kuala Lumpur is a shopping-friendly area for tourists. Especially if you are in time for sales, you get even better discounts. Plus, being foreign tourists, you get a rebate for buying in KL. You will get the rebate in the airport after going thru the immigration.

Close to the Philippines

From the Philippines, Kuala Lumpur is just a 3-hour and 45 minutes of travel time via air. It is just like traveling EDSA  :lol:

Seriously, it is just like traveling from Manila to Baguio.

At times, flights to KL are even cheaper compared to flights to other provinces in the Philippines.

AirAsia, as it is owned by a Malaysian company, offers low-cost flights from Manila to Kuala Lumpur 3x (three times) daily. And just recently, AirAsia launched flights from Cebu and Davao straight to Kuala Lumpur.
