Have you ever been caught early in the morning rushing for work or school or meeting, and just can’t get another minute of breakfast?
Well, there’s guilt inside knowing that breakfast is what you need to jumpstart your day. And of course, not just any breakfast, but a healthy one – and this can really get a long way for your hectic day.
According to the Department of Science and Technology Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), 6 out of 10 Filipino households suffer from poor nutrition. Under nutrition stunts mental and physical development while over nutrition leads to obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
A national nutrition survey conducted by DOST-FNRI in 2013 reveals that wasting or thinness among 5-10 year old children remains unchanged since 2011 while stunting continues to be a problem among teenage kids. Obesity has a 30% prevalence rate while chronic energy deficiency continues to afflict 10% of adults.
These nutrition problems often result from poor eating habits, like skipping meals such as breakfast, or having an unbalanced diet, and can lead to poor performance in school or at work.
“Breakfast is the most important meal. Studies have shown that consuming a nutritious breakfast helps ensure that children and adults will have the energy that can sustain their productivity throughout the day. “It also helps contribute to the development of mental and physical abilities,” said Greg Anonas, Energen marketing manager.
