With Mother’s Day in just a few days, it is always a good idea to make an effort to show your appreciation to your wife, mom, mother-in-law and grandmother. As they are important mothers in your life.
Whether it is a simple gift, a food date, movie screening or makeover, no matter how simple or extravagant it may be, the effort and gesture speak volume to a mother.
In my wife’s case, our friends from SM City San Mateo had an early Mother’s Day treat for her: bonding time with our child, lunch date and a surprise hair treatment.
With a number of stores in SM City San Mateo, there is one or two things that can actually do to treat your wife or mom.
In our case, here’s what we did.
Since we have a toddler, our first stop was at Kids Kingdom Play Zone. It is recreational and play zone for toddlers and kids. Our two-year old daughter enjoyed different areas inside.
There are inflatables, video games, educational and sensory toys that can enhance motor skills, creative thinking and even the social skills of your child/ren.
The Kids Kingdom Playzone currently offers time-based access. As off writing their rates are:
- 30 minutes – Php 130
- 1 hour – Php 220
- 2 hours – Php 440

Next stop is The Taste of Czaczacza (pronounced as Chachacha). We have been in this restaurant a number of times. My personal favorite is their lomi overload.
We ate the following during our lunch:
- Crispy pork kare-kare (my wife’s personal favorite) – Php 399
- Beef caldereta – Php 410
- Parmesan crusted fish with caper sauce – Php 385
- Blueberry aide
- Chocolate pistachio knafeh (I am a sweet tooth, so this is my favorite)
The currently popular chocolate popular pistachio knafeh is a must-try. While this is not the first time I tried this, but thankfully, I let it chill in our ref for few hours and ate it together with coffee. I find the experience better, as the insides turned crunchier which was great for my liking. I find the taste similar to Kitkat.

We have eaten at The Taste of Czaczacza a number of times already. I have to say that if you happen to be in SM City San Mateo or in Marikina, it is a restaurant you have to try. In the case of SM City San Mateo, as of writing time, they only prefer cash, GCash or direct BDO bank transfer. Hopefully, they will have credit card transactions soon!
As for our last stop was a surprise hair collagen treatment at David’s Salon. My wife often overlooks her personal beauty regimens, after she gave birth to our child.
While she is blessed with natural beauty, it is better to take time pampering, treating herself at times without feeling guilty of overlooking our toddler.
That’s why as the surprise was unfolding, I can see how she was delighted of the simple pleasure of David Salon’s hair collagen treatment.
Being a parent means, at times, sacrificing personal time, space and satisfaction for the sake of his/her child’s welfare. Which I find understandable during the infant to toddler stage of a child.
But it is not a bad idea to take even a brief personal time for moms or “Mom-me time” as SM CIty San Mateo, as long as, you are still a responsible mom.
Being a responsible mom means taking of your child while taking care of yourself and your husband.

Even a simple takeout food in one of the food stalls and spend time at SM City San Mateo’s roofdeck while stargazing, as long as it is meaningful to you and your wife or your mom, it can spell a heartfelt difference.
