Gadget Review: Cherry Mobile Flare S4

If you’re wondering what are your options in buying a budget-friendly smartphone under P 5,000, then maybe, the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 is worth a look for you.

The Cherry Mobile Flare S4 is an octa-core powered Android running a 64-bit 1.3Ghz processor. With this mobile processor, it is enough to power the basic to intermediate needs of regular user, from the basic phone processing to more advance Android applications.

Cherry Mobile Flare S4 1

Like most of the Cherry Mobile’s phone, the Flare S4 is a dual-sim device that has up to 4G capability of data on SIM 1, while only up to 2G data capability for the SIM 2. It is also has WIFI capability as expected from newer phone models.

It has a replaceable 2,200 mAh battery and a specially-marked designed back. A little drawback if I may say, is the 2,200 mAh battery, that is quite small, as to a heavy data user or video-savvy user. Though, of course, there’s always a powerbank that can come handy to this.

Cherry Mobile Flare S4 2

The Cherry Mobile Flare S4 has a standard micro USB 2.0 and OTG port to it, 3.5mm audio jack, plus power and volume button on the side.

The 5.0-inch HD IPS Display has a quite a bright and vivid colors in a normal viewing situation – best for watching videos, browsing photos and playing games of course.

With Mali-T720 GPU, it can render most of the games that the Play Store has to offer now, excluding the 3D-intensive games. I tried playing Shadow Fight 2 and it went on effortlessly.

I personally like the sharpness of the display at 294 ppi (720 x 1280 Pixels).

The Cherry Mobile Flare S4 runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). With Cherry Mobile’s own wireless update system, it can notify any user (as long as connected to the Internet) on the latest system update for the phone. Since using this last December, I have had two updates, so far from Cherry Mobile.

Tagged at Php 4,999, the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 is equipped with dual-camera. The rear camera boast of a 13-megapixel Autofocus BSI Camera, while the front camera is at 5.0-megapixel. Below are sample of both the front cam and the rear cam shot in daylight.

With the 16GB internal storage, you can download pretty much a lot of apps to use with your Flare S4 and store your own photos and videos. You can always add storage via MicroSD, should you need more space.

That pretty much sums up the Cherry Mobile Flare S4. It is a decent Android phone below Php 5,000, that can deliver pretty much most of the regular users’ daily needs.
